Two terms that are often confused

ERP integration and workflow automation both reduce manual work, but they solve different problems. Integration keeps data consistent between systems. Automation runs a sequence of steps, often across people and tools, when something happens.

What ERP integration does

ERP integration moves records such as orders, customers, items, invoices, and payments between your ERP and other systems through supported APIs. It focuses on data accuracy, mapping, error handling, and keeping a single source of truth.

  • Sync e-commerce orders into the ERP
  • Push invoices and payments to a CRM
  • Share item and price data with a warehouse system

What workflow automation does

Workflow automation, built with tools such as n8n, Zapier, Make, or custom Python, reacts to events and runs steps: notify a person, create a task, generate a document, request an approval, or call an API.

  • Route a new lead and notify sales
  • Create onboarding tasks when a deal closes
  • Send overdue invoice reminders automatically

How to choose

If the problem is the same data typed into two systems, start with integration. If the problem is a multi-step process that depends on people remembering to act, start with automation. Many businesses need both: integration to keep data correct, and automation to act on it.
